Roads
Roads
Our Public Works division is responsible for maintaining over 340 km of local roads, including both hard and gravel topped roads. We maintain Township roads, and by agreement with the County of Lennox and Addington, we also maintain County roads.
We maintain County and Township roads by following the Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways (O.Reg. 239/02, as amended). The standards regulate maintenance activities including routine patrolling, potholes, shoulder drop-off, cracking, streetlights, sign repair or replacement, and snow and ice accumulation. All roads and streets are classified.
Provincial Highways
There are two provincial highways in Loyalist Township: Highway 401 and Highway 33 (Bath Road). The roads are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transportation. Maintenance for these roads is done by C-Highway Maintenance, the province's contractor. To report a complaint about a provincial highway please call C-Highway Maintenance at their toll-free 24-hour hotline, 1-866-685-2770.
Streetlights |
We own and operate streetlights along Township roads and within Township parks. If you note a light that is out, stays on, or turns on and off, please report the light to us by filling out this reporting form, or by calling 613-386-7351, ext. 116. To report the light, you should have the pole number and location. You can find the pole number approximately 3m off the ground, facing the street. The pole number is printed on a stainless steel band and will have one letter and three numbers. For example: A310 or P037. Repairs are made by R.W. Electric, the Township's contractor. Please note that repairs may take up to fourteen days, or longer if the utilities provider is required to assist with repairs. |
Sidewalks |
We regularly inspect and maintain Township sidewalks. If you see a hazard such as a crack, hole, uneven concrete, or any other dangerous situation, “Make a call, prevent a fall!” Call the Township's assistance line at 613-386-7351, ext. 116., and report the following details:
You can also use the Report a Concern tool to report a sidewalk hazard. |
Temporary Road Closure |
Tree Trimming |
We trim trees that are located on our municipal right-of-way. We maintain them once there is a sufficient number and budget is available for tree maintenance. We are not responsible for trimming trees on private property. We can't cut trees if they are close to or touching overhead wires, such as Hydro, telephone, or other utility wires. If the trees are interfering with the wires, please call the utility owner. Trees should not be planted on our municipal right-of-way without written permission from the Township. |
