Ward Boundary Review
Loyalist Township is currently conducting a Ward Boundary Review.
On January 1, 1998, the Townships of Ernestown and Amherst Island amalgamated with the Village of Bath to form one municipality called Loyalist Township.
The Corporation of Loyalist Township is currently divided into three wards and is governed by an elected Council consisting of a Mayor, Deputy Mayor and five Councilors. The five Councillors are elected by ward, with one Councillor representing Ward 1, one Councillor representing Ward 2 and three Councillors representing Ward 3.

Loyalist Township is conducting a ward boundary review. A ward boundary review is an exercise to assess whether the existing wards constitute an effective and equitable system of representation, and, if not, to propose alternatives.
A ward is a geographical division of a Township for administrative and political purposes. The current wards in the Township were established in 1998. Since then, the Township has experienced a significant growth in population and some areas of the Township have seen more growth than others.
This review aims to establish fair and equitable wards, with better representation of the citizens at the Council table. The review uses the principles of representation by population, future population trends, physical and natural boundaries, and recognition of communities of interest to evaluate the existing ward structure and alternative options.
To conduct the ward boundary review, the Township has retained Watson and Associates Economists Ltd to conduct the comprehensive and independent Ward Boundary Review. Watson and Associates will ensure that all relevant factors will be taken into account to achieve effective representation for all residents.
