At the Loyalist Township Council meeting on December 10, 2024, Council adopted the 2025 Municipal Budget. The final budget will result in a 5.03 percent residential tax rate increase.

The overall tax increase represents an increase of just over 47 cents* per day, per average household for the delivery of important services residents rely on, like waste collection, snow clearing, parks maintenance, and capital infrastructure projects. This budget also focuses on delivering on the key action items of Loyalist Township’s, investing in Council-approved initiatives like the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre Renewal, traffic calming projects to improve community safety, and a pilot transit service enhancement.

When deliberating on the 2025 budget, Council carefully considered the balance between providing necessary services while being mindful of the impact tax increases can have on residents. The following cost-cutting measures were agreed upon through budget meetings to achieve a lower tax rate increase:

  • Reduction in Council expenses and deferral of market compensation adjustment
  • Deferral of staff positions and filling of vacancies
  • Deferral of the Business, Retention and Expansion Study
  • Reduction in funding allocated to the Physician Recruitment Incentive Program
  • Reduction in Information Technology expenses

The Township’s $23 million in operating expenses will support the continued delivery of the Township’s programs and services including fire services, waste collection, parks and trails, maintenance of roads and community facilities, recreation, safe and reliable services. The budget also includes $9.4 million in capital investments for:

  • Continued construction of the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre renewal
  • Rural road reconstruction
  • Playground redevelopment at Dinosaur Park
  • Improvements to Township heritage sites, including the Layer Cake Hall and Fairfield House
  • Reconstruction of Pruyn Crescent and Sir John Johnson Drive
  • Water meter replacement program

"As Mayor, I am pleased to announce the adoption of the Township budget for the coming year. Our primary goal is to ensure that we continue to provide high-quality services to both our residents and local businesses, while also being fiscally responsible. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all the residents who took the time to share their feedback through surveys and by participating in our budget meetings.
