New Accessible Transit Program
Loyalist Township is committed to providing Accessible Transit services to areas that are currently being serviced by traditional transit. As in keeping with this mandate, Loyalist Township is partnering with Kingston Area Taxi Commission (KATC) to provide accessible transit services to Amherstview. The details of operation and how to apply are as follows.
Accessible taxi service support is based on:
- Feedback from residents and visitors over the lack of accessible vehicles for hire made spontaneous travel a challenge.
- Feedback from service providers regarding the high costs of providing accessible taxi services.
- Adherence to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA, 2005) and its related regulations and standards to create a municipality accessible to all, regardless of ability.
In June 2023, the Mayor and the Chief Administrative Officer authorized Loyalist Township to enter into an agreement with the Kingston Area Taxi Commission to provide an accessible taxi service for passengers who are unable to use conventional transit.
