Loyalist Township will be retaining a contractor to reconstruct the existing retaining walls on the north side of the pedestrian walkway on both the east and west side of McKeown Crescent. Work is expected to start in mid-October and will last approximately 3-4 weeks. Weather and other unexpected delays may extend the completion of work.

The work will generally consist of:

  • Removal of existing wood retaining walls and fencing
  • Constructing a new engineered retaining wall
  • Installation of new fencing
  • Minor paving on the walkways

To facilitate the work a lane closure may be required by the contractor to store materials within the Right of Way. The closure will be on McKeown Crescent in the north bound lane around the walkway. All driveway access will be maintained for the duration of construction. Some minor traffic delays can be expected, and traffic control measures will be in place.

The walkway on both the east and west side of McKeown will be closed to all pedestrian traffic for the duration of the work and there will be no access to Fairfield Elementary School from the trail. At this time an exact timeline for the closure has not been determined. Residents in the immediate are of the work will be notified prior to construction commencing and signage will be placed on the walkway. Notices will also be posted on the Township's social media channels.

The Mailboxes located on the east side of McKeown on the walkway will be relocated to the side yard of 115 Kildare Ave, immediately south of 6 McKeown Crescent for the duration of the work. When the work is complete the mailboxes will be returned to their regular location. There will be no disruption to mail service.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the undersigned.
