Kennel Licencing

Dog Tags must be purchased annually for all dogs in Loyalist Township in accordance with the Municipal Dog Control By-law 2011-069. Households with more than 3 dogs must apply for a Kennel Licence.

Application Process

Kennel Licences are issued on an annual basis. Complete the Kennel Licence Application form. If you require the form in an alternative method, please contact clerk@loyalist.ca

Zoning Requirements

You must first apply for a Kennel Licence Site Plan which includes a sketch of your lot and location of your primary residence and any outbuildings including the kennel building. The sketch must indicate the distance from the kennel to the property lines.

As per the Loyalist Township Comprehensive Zoning By-law, 2001-38:

No Kennel shall be erected within 60 metres of the lot line of adjacent lands which are held under distinct and separate ownership. Where a kennel existed as of the date of passing of this By-law which does not comply with the 60 metre setback, such kennel shall not be extended, enlarged, reconstructed or altered if the effect is to reduce or encroach on the setback.

Once the application is received it will be forwarded to the planning department to determine if the property is zoned for this type of use.

Fees

January 1 - March 31 (early bird rate): $120 (The form must arrive at the Township Office before March 31 to receive the discounted rate).

April 1 - December 31 (regular rate): $220

Fees are collected at the Township Office at 263 Main Street, Odessa, ON, K0H 2H0. Accepted forms of payment are: cash, debit & cheque.
