New - Public Transit Survey Results |
From September 2020 until December 2020, Loyalist Township invited residents and stakeholders to complete a Public Transit Survey to identify the transportation needs within Loyalist Township and to gather community input to inform future decisions. At the May 25, 2021 Regular Council Meeting, Council received an Improving Public Transportation - Progress Report and directed staff to release the results of the public transportation survey by posting a copy of the results on the Township website. You can find a statistical analysis of the survey results by clicking the button below. Council authorized staff to continue consultation with key stakeholders (Kingston Transit, The Town of Greater Napanee, Lennox and Addington County) on public transportation and engage residents to obtain their feedback on an expanded public transportation system that would service all residents of Loyalist Township. Council requested that staff provide a progress report to Council in the fall of 2021. A progress report was presented to Council at their regular session on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Background |
Our transit contract with the City of Kingston has provided a public bus service to the Amherstview area for over 30 years. Provincial legislation requires that municipalities who provide transit service must also make some provision for accessible transportation in the transit area such as a specialized transit service or an alternative such as accessible taxis. We do not operate a specialized transit service so we must offer an alternative, to comply with the legislation. Amherstview residents with disabilities who cannot use the conventional bus services can use one of the six accessible taxis that provide accessible service. This service is door-to-door and is available on a first come first served basis. The Kingston buses that serve Route 10 in Amherstview are considered accessible:
