Earth Day
Lead by example and help us celebrate Earth Day this year by participating in Township and community events, and/ or taking the time to review our list of educational resources to help us take steps towards a more sustainable future! This year, Earth Day takes place on Monday, April 22nd, 2024.
About Earth Day
Earth Day is the largest secular observance in the world – celebrated by more than a billion people every year – and a day of action that changes human behaviour and provokes policy changes.
This year, Loyalist Township has registered to participate in Earth Day Canada’s Municipalities Mobilizing campaign. Loyalist has joined more than 115 municipalities in Canada to raise awareness of environmental issues among citizens and organizations across the country, this campaign aims to encourage as many people as possible to take action which aligns with goals outlined in our ResiLienT Loyalist Township Climate Action Plan.
Loyalist Township's Electronic Waste, Battery & Textile Recycling Drive
Declutter your home and make a difference! Loyalist Township's Electronic Waste, Battery & Textile Recycling Drive is an opportunity for Township residents to recycle responsibly.
Electronic waste, or e-waste, is among the fastest-growing waste streams worldwide, containing hazardous materials that can harm the environment and human health if not disposed of correctly.
This year, the Township has partnered with Diabetes Canada to also collect textiles as the average person throws away 37 kg of textiles per year – the majority of which could be reused or repurposed, but instead, ends up in landfills. Textiles can include clothing, curtains, towels, blankets, sheets, and footwear. Textile donations will be collected by Diabetes Canada at the end of the collection event, with textile net proceeds supporting diabetes research, D-camps and more.
Residents can swing by the Amherstview Fire Station anytime during the event, and drive to the back of the parking lot where Township staff will be waiting to help collect your recyclable items.
